she was born on the planet alderaan, the youngest child of the head of the military. barbara was a born pilot, and she wasn't one to sit around and do nothing when injustice was being done. but war is a dangerous place, and even the greatest of pilots won't always escape unharmed. she had been unable to swerve the tie fighter coming for her, and took a direct hit. her survival was miraculous, but came with a price. a piece of debris had damaged her spin beyond what the medics could repair. but barbara's work with the rebels was far from done, as she joined their fulcrum program.

she was a two time new york under 18's champion. had lifted the trophy triumphantly, the culmination of a hard work put in her entire life. but her career was cut short. it had been ruled an accident. a car going hitting the passenger side of theirs at a junction. a sensei from a rival dojo behind the wheel. her father never believed it an accident, and so moved them across the country to california. away from the madness of the karate world. or so he thought, as soon after a new dojo opened up in reseda. cobra kai. looking for new recruits. she had tried to join, wanted to get back into the world she loved, but was denied. they didn't believe she could do karate from her chair, but she was determined to prove them wrong. so she trained herself, created her own style, until all she needed was a willing sensei. and she found him at miyagi-do.

.parents,.    james gordon and barbara elieen gordon. despite being named after her mother the two are not close. she left when barbara was only young and has only visited on a handful of occasions, though barbara does receive cards on her birthday and christmas. in her adult years her mother has attempted to make amends, but barbara was not receptive. as a result barbara is very close to her brother, commissioner of gotham pd.
.sibling,.    james gordon jr, older brother. the two are not close, having not lived in the same household for most of their lives. any attempts from her brother to form some sort of relationship have been met with resistance and refusal. currently james gordon jr is held at arkham asylum, following a guilty verdict of serial murder.

.traits and personality,.   
many would describe barbara as strong-willed, determined, and maybe somewhat hot-headed. traits she's carried for most of her life, that family friends would say she got from her dad. they served her well, giving her the drive to (over)achieve academically and in her extra curricular.
as a teen she used humour like a shield. kept her peers at arms length, rarely letting them in too close, but she was always good for a laugh! and she would be the first to admit she had somewhat of an ego, especially as batgirl, born from so many years of striving to be the best. her first failure as batgirl was hard to bare, but it was a turning point. she started to let her real self through. a girl who was witty, yes, but also extremely intelligent. a genuis, some might say. who would become an ace detective in her own right. traits that would spur her to become oracle. relying not on her intellect, but her resourcefulness. the ever reliable oracle. that would unlock her thirst for knowledge and belief it should be shared. that became her driving force when the rest of the world seemed so dark.
her family, by blood and by bond, would call her loyal, kind, and compassionate. a shoulder to learn on. she's the older sister to many a bat, a close friend to the rest. always with a spare room for those who have lost their way. spare towels, toothbrushes, and cups of coffee by the abundance. all colour coded, of course, for each family member. happy to act as their anchor and rock, as they had once done for her.

.fears and ailments,.    once upon a time she had consdiered herself fearless. didn't mind heights or the dark. snakes, spiders, and bees didn't bother her. of course, it was all bravado. she couldn't recognise the fear of abandonment her mother had instilled in her, nor the paralysing fear of losing someone she loved until she nearly lost her father. didn't feel the fear of losing her own self creeping in until she was lying in a hospital bed coming to terms with her new reality. who was she if she couldn't be batgirl? depression fogged her mind, made the world seem dark and hazy. it took almost a year but with the help of her loved ones, and therapy, eventually the fog lifted.
she developed a fear of clowns after that. a would have nightmares of a wide, red smile and a haunting laugh. even the most childish of clown would cause her to freeze, to struggle to catch her breath, to feel pain where usually there was nothing. she continued to go to therapy, learnt tools to cope with the panic attacks and worked through the ptsd. clowns might not be as scary anymore, but she still doesn't particularly like them.

.complexion,.    pale skin with a few, light, freckles on her face and arms. barbara has a promenant scar on her abdomen and back from the gunshot that left her paralysed, as well as various other scars from surgeries.
.eye colour,.    green with flecks of blue. can look more blue then green in some light.
.hair,.    naturally red, which she inherited from her father. as a teenager she kept her hair long, past her shoulders to her mid-back, and only cut it when necessary. following her injury she cut her hair to just under chin length, which she steadily grew out over time. as an adult she keeps her hair at shoulder length and cut regularly.
.build,.    slim and muscular, particularly in her arms and legs. years of training and fighting as batgirl has given barbara high muscle definition. in the aftermath of her injury some of the muscle did atrophy, due to time spent in hospital and struggles with mental health to stay active, however she later regained this.

.mentor,.    batman, somewhat reluctantly. becoming batgirl was almost an accident. it was just a party costume, a joke with some friends, that had ended up on the newspapers. batgirl saves millionaire. who is batgirl; gotham's newest hero. she didn't hate the idea. it had been a rush - and so she badgered and badgered until the batman relented. the rest is history.
.suit,.    there are three iterations of the batgirl suit. the first was homemade. a jacket, a pair of leggins, and yellow boots. used until a replacement, more suited to the job, was gifted from batman. the black, grey, and yellow suit was used for the next two and a half years as she worked closely with batman and robin. the third suit, with a darker purple tint, was used until batgirl's retirement. the suit she wore when she struck out on her own, taking on her own cases in burnside. all suits are now kept in storage.
.affiliates,.    as batgirl she mainly worked with batman and robin, and once or twice with supergirl. as oracle she's worked with a wider variety of heroes, from sidekicks to league members. she's the leader of the birds of prey, established soon after she became oracle. she works closely with cassandra cain and stephanie brown, mentoring them during their turns as batgirl, and now beyond. the batgirls, they lovingly call themselves. oracle also works closely with the rest of the bat-family.
.equipment,.    as batgirl she had a wide arsenal of equipment, mostly provided by batman, that was stored in her trusty utility belt. amongst the most prominently used where her grappling hook and batarangs, of which she had a few variations. her favourite piece of equipment, by far, was her batcycle, made to her preferences and her own design.
as oracle barbara works closely with computers, drones, and remote technology. some of which she invented herself, with lucius fox's help. most of her equipment is stationed in the watchtower, her base of operations.
in her day-to-day barbara carries escrima sticks on her, hidden in the back of her wheelchair. it is gotham, after all.

.skills and hobbies,.    she's always been smart. a smart-ass, her father might have once called her. it was her first grade teacher who realised that, actually, she had genius level intellect and an iq higher then most adults. soon after it was discovered she had an eidetic memory - the ability to recall an image from memory with high precision, at least for a brief period of time, after seeing it only once. and, oh, it served her well.
from a young age barbara had been enrolled in martial arts and self defence classes. they lived in gotham, after all, and as a long serving police office her father believe it was best she know how to defend herself. vigilantes and heroes couldn't be relied upon, she needed to be able to look out for herself. to jump in when, dressed in a makeshift batman costume, when she came across a group of thugs trying to mug bruce wayne. it hadn't crossed her mind that she might be hurt, only that she had the ability to help.
her father once said she spent too much time in front of a screen. but the world of computers had always been fascinating to her. she spent her free time learning to read binary code and working out what made them tick. by her early teens she was an expert, experimenting in some low level hacking and coding. mostly of online games and long abandoned websites. this skill developed as she aged, leading her to study computer science at university.

she was born on the planet alderaan, the youngest child of bail organa's closest confident and head of his military. in a lot of ways barbara took after her father, he would say perhaps too much.she spent a lot of her childhood around the alderaan royal family, becoming best friends of the princess. it was leia who encouraged her to join the rebel allegiance, despite her father's hesitance to let her fight. but barbara was a born pilot, and she wasn't one to sit around and do nothing when injustice was being done.she hadn't been able to swerve the tie fighter that was after her. it happened all too fast. a direct blast hitting her x-wing, warning lights and alarms sounding as she fell from the sky. her survival was miraculous, so she was told, but wasn't without cost. a piece of debris had damaged her spin beyond what the medics could repair, and she was left unable to use her legs.that wouldn't be the end of her journey, though. barbara joined the fulcrum program, working alongside others across the rebel network to deliver intel and support the rebel allegiance, and the princess, as the fight continued.

she was a karate champion back home. for two years running she had lifted that trophy triumphantly, as her father cheered her on in the stands. he had always been her biggest support and #1 fan. those moments were the culmination of everything she had worked for. the result of all the hard work she had put in. later she would look back on those as the best moments of her life.it was ruled a freak accident. another car slamming into the passenger side at a junction. her father didn’t believe it, not when the driver turned out to be a sensei at a rival dojo. barbara felt like she lost everything that night. woke up in a hospital bed, her trophy in pieces next to her, unable to feel her legs.her father moved them to california after that. a fresh start away from all the karate madness, so he said. but it didn’t take long for the war to reach reseda, too. adverts started popping up for a new dojo in the area, cobra kai, and barbara had something to prove. they wouldn’t even let her through the door. how was a girl who couldn’t move her legs supposed to be kick-ass at karate? she was determined to prove them wrong.so barbara trained herself, created her own style, until all she needed was a willing sensei, and she found him at miyagi-do.
